More Help For Students!

Here is more information about the recently-passed student loan reform program:

The student loan reform does not eliminate private lending it only requires that students receiving federal loans acquire them directly from the government.

It seems that so far 20,000 people have signed up for this kind of program.

Full time students are eligible who work at least 20 hours a week.

College students can now apply for food stamps and still get grants and government loans. However students will now only be able to get their student loans through the government.

Local University Has A Grant Program For Students!

Are you a student feeling the financial crunch of the current economy? For those who may feel they have "reached the end of their rope," there is a place to turn. There is now a support program which is a free, confidential resource for graduate and undergraduate students experiencing financial emergencies.

Says a spokesperson for the program, "One of our goals is to help keep students in school." Students in financial emergencies fill out an application, which is stripped of any identifying information and sent to the board consisting of other students.

While grants do offer support for the short term financial emergencies, the program also offers long-term direction to external resources and financial tips for students.

The website states that another goal of the foundation is to "help students who apply for grants to become more self-reliant through advice and suggestions of reliable resources on campus and in the community.

Grants may be awarded to those who need help with textbooks, food, medical emergencies, emergency travel or daycare to name a few. There are some things the grants will not cover including fines and fees, tuition, counseling services or cell phone bills.

For a complete list, students are encouraged to visit the website.

It is important to remember that everything to do with the program, from students applying for grants to members of the board, is completely confidential and anonymous. Applications are stripped of all identifying information including names, addresses, and even majors, before they are passed to the board. Students on the board are anonymous to ensure that those applying for emergency financial assistance feel safe and comfortable doing so.

If you are in a financial emergency and need assistance “there are many options available to you. You can visit their website to learn more about the program or to fill out an application for a grant“. There are also 2 email addresses that you can mail your grant applications to - these email addresses are also provided on the website as well!

Also, the Student Support Foundation is looking for both graduate and undergraduate students to be on the board. Check out the website for a description of board membership, fill out an application and email it to either Fuller or Tardif. If you're in serious financial need, don't forget that your friends at the SSF can help!

Grants For School Athletes?

Grants? Are there any for college students?

Of course the answer is yes!

A lot of students are looking for ways to make money in order to pay their way through school. They see a lot of ads for "how to make free money but they should know that there are legitimate ways to be able to pay for their college expenses.

It is possible that a student-athlete may be eligible to receive grant funding in order to pay his way through school. This grant funding can include ALL or part of the educational expenses associated with tuition, fees, room, board, and required course-related books.

These kinds of grants awarded for one year or less and may not be canceled during the award period unless one of the exceptions applies.

For example there is one state university that offers athletic scholarships in 26 sports for students that qualify.

The head coach of each sport may request a full scholarship that covers tuition and fees, room and board, and books. Partial scholarships cover a portion of one or more of these expenses. All scholarships are awarded for a period of one year. The school may choose to award an athletic student a scholarship for summer school, but the school is not obligated to do so. The policies and procedures about this kind of funding can be found by clicking here. Students who are seeking grants and scholarships for college are encouraged to contact the financial aid office of their school when they are looking for grants for college.

Did you know that some college scholarship can be renewed? Notification of renewals can be sent to scholarship recipients themselves prior to the academic year in which it is to be effective. Information concerning the signing of renewal scholarships can be provided by the school at certain events.

Your school's financial aid office may offer a variety of grant, work, and loan programs to give financial options to all families, no matter what their need or resources. Students should file for a free application for student aid. This FREE application is used nationwide to determine aid eligibility by collecting income, asset, and demographic data about the student and family. To find out more about the types of financial aid available visit the financial aid office's website. If you are unable to file the online student aid application then you may obtain a paper application from your high school or college, and mail it to the federal government’s web site. However filing your student aid application online is faster and more accurate!

Four to six weeks after you submit your student aid application, you should receive a report. This report will list all the information you reported on your student aid application. Possible errors will be bold in print. Students should review their entire student aid application carefully to make sure that all information that they have provided is accurate! If corrections are needed then you should follow the instructions on the student aid application form.

At the time that you get your student aid report the same information will be released electronically. This information is used to determine your eligibility for a variety of financial aid programs.

Additional college scholarships can be found by using a free search service that is provided online for FREE! Two scholarship searches that are recommended can be found by clicking here. After entering information about your background, educational goals, and interests, you will be given a list of organizations that offer scholarships for which you may be eligible. Remember that search services provide only a preliminary match. You must complete any applications and other requirements, and meet specific deadlines in order to be considered.

The Announcement of a fund for special assistance!

A special fund has been established for student-athletes who may need financial assistance where there are needs of an emergency of an essential nature for which financial assistance is not already yet available. Eligible athletic students (except non-qualifiers in their initial year of residence), athletic students who have demonstrated financial need or a foreign athletic student who has been certified and has demonstrated as having financial need are eligible to apply for these funds. These funds can be used for:

  • Cost of clothing and other essential expenses up to $500 per year

  • Cost of expendable academic course supplies (e.g. notebooks and pens)

  • Medical and dental costs not covered by another insurance program

  • Costs associated with the athletic student or an athletic student's family emergencies

To apply for this special assistance funding program or for additional information you can contact your school's financial aid office.

Are There REALLY

Grant Programs

That Help To

Pay Off Debts?

According to an online website it seems that our government has put in place billions of dollars in government grants to help people. The goal of these grant programs is to help pay for those who have a lot of debt. These grant programs are open to ANY American citizen from 18 years old and above who is in serious financial need!

It has been reported that the President and Congress has already authorized the federal and state governments to channel billions of dollars to these grants at the soonest possible time! There are numerous kinds of grants and with careful research and documentation you will be able to find one that suits your individual needs and situation. Applying for grants is not the easiest thing but the requirements and documents needed are necessary for fair chances to all as well as to better assess your needs.

These kinds of grant programs are given by both the federal and state levels of our government to help people who are having trouble paying back their debt. These kinds of grant programs are not used often because many people are not aware that they exist and think they are not eligible for them.

There are also specific government debt relief grants where the money can be used to take care of debt for specific situations, such as student loans, business debt, and medical bills. For example, many small business owners accumulate debt when they start up a business and have trouble paying that debt off.

Now you would probably ask why such a grant program would exist.

When people are having trouble paying off their debt it creates a situation of decreasing expenditures for the individual. This will, in turn, lessen the demand for other goods and services that can be purchased because people do not have the extra money to buy these things. By not spending money it affects the economy in the country or state, which will then suffer because money is not being pumped into the economy. Because of this it is important that people have enough money to spend so that the economy can do well. These government grant programs were created to ensure that the economy does not suffer by giving money to people to pay off their debt so they can spend money on other goods and services.

These government grant programs are available for people that are able to prove that they cannot pay their debt off. If you are applying for for one of these government grant programs then you must be able to prove this fact. The social service of the government will look over your application as well as your financial standing, the amount of debts you have incurred, and what position you are in to pay back the debt. All of these aspects are taken into consideration before you will be given a grant.

Interesting fact! - It seems that one of them main reasons why our government has this kind of government grant program is to keep people from filing for bankruptcy.

But how does one get these types of government grants?????

You can search for these types of government grant programs by going to the governments official website. You can also look for these kinds of grant programs by going to your own state's website as well.

You also have to be very careful to take advantage of the government grant programs where you do not have to pay the money back!

People are frequently surprised when they discover that there are government grant programs that exist that can be used for paying off a variety of debts. There are grant programs that exist that can be used for:

  • paying off one’s mortgage

  • utility bills

  • tuition fees

  • medical bills

  • legal fees

  • car loans

  • home improvements

What about credit card debt?

According to an online website people can apply for government grant programs to pay off their credit card debt. This type of government grant program can help to pay off a person's credit card debt by helping to minimize the accruing interest and fees of the credit card debt and help repair the damaged credit of a person over time.

Grant Money For Student Entrepreneurs!

One university here in the United States has a grant program for its student entrepreneurs. This is a grant funding program where students apply for money to advance their own business ideas.

So far $50,000 in grant money has been awarded! In addition to the financial awards, grant recipients will receive counsel from leading business experts on business plan development and funding strategies.

According to one spokesperson for the program, "Participating in this competition is a fantastic learning experience for our students. They are forced to evaluate market potential for their ideas, develop a business case and conduct due diligence".

Those who are selected benefit not only from the financing but they also gain access to business experts and venture capital leaders to determine next steps in the development of their business ideas.

So far over 900 students have received these grant money awards for their start-up businesses. Grants are administered at three funding levels:

  • business design grants at $500

  • assessment grants at $1,500

  • up to $10,000 for integration grants

Past grant recipients include:

  • $5,000 for a designer and manufacturer of light sport aircrafts

  • $1,500 for an online marketplace for booking charter aircraft

  • a business that provides web-based software that offers operational support for solar PV contractors

  • $1,500 for an online business that offers online information and products for urban gardening

  • $500 to a business that provides a web application that alerts patrons to daily specials from local restaurants

  • $500 to a business that provides a debit card for international travelers

  • $500 to a business that offers speed dating through interactive gaming

  • $500 to an Indian senior-living facility in United States

This program benefits students, as well as the local and university community, by stimulating entrepreneurial efforts and starting new businesses.

For more information about this grant program for students you can visit their website by clicking here.

Government

Job Opening

Not only does our government have grant programs they also have many job openings as well! There is currently a job opening in Alaska for someone to work with dogs. The job includes managing a dog kennel and operating and running a dog sled! According to an online article the salary for this job position can be as much as $66,000!

There is even an interview with the person who formally held this position.

You can read the article by clicking here.

Small Businesses

Receive

Grant Money

For Energy Programs

2 small businesses have received grant money to build solar photovoltaic systems to generate electricity at their respective places of business.

Says one of the grant recipients, "I've been thinking about doing solar for a long time, for years actually. It's just been so expensive. I found out about that grant this summer."

Unfortunately one of the down sides to this grant program is that the application for the grant is 150 pages long! But that didn't stop the two businesses (one of which is a farming business) from applying for the grant money.

According to a spokesperson for the grant program, "These funds are a good example of the Obama administration's commitment to helping rural businesses become more energy efficient. In the long run, the funding that is being obligated is good for both the economy and the environment."

One of the grant recipients will use the grant money to install 13,000-watt systems at his farm and the storage facility. He hopes to have his systems operating by the end of the year.

The other grant recipient, who has a small business running a tavern, will install one five-kilowatt system on the roof of his downtown business and he hopes to have it operating by early next year.

Grant Programs

For

Single Mothers!

Single mothers who are living on a low income can now qualify for a number of grant programs. Recently President Obama has started yet another grant program for single mothers who want to go back to school to continue their education.

As for other kind of grant programs that single mothers can apply for here is a recent excerpt:

There are also lots of others grants out there that mothers who want to go to college can apply for. It would benefit all mothers to apply for as many as they can and not rely on just one. Mothers do not have to repay the grant money because it is a government grant that help mothers with low income to go back to school.

The grant money can be used to help mothers tremendously. The money can be used to pay for college expenses such as books, tuition and even daycare while in college.

Also available to single moms who decided to go back to school is a tax program which allows mothers an opportunity to use their first $4,000 as tax free money.

Mothers can study at their local nearby community college, junior college or even study at home online. Many mothers take this last option of studying at home because it's a lot easier to stay home with the kids and at the same time get their college degree.

President Obama has made every effort to help mothers go back to school and get their degree. There's no reason why any mother out there should not take this wonderful opportunity.

There is now also an online website where you can enter a drawing to win $10,000 towards your education.

Registration is required and the deadline to enter is

December 31, 2009

Could Your Business Use A Loan?

One restaurant owner was struggling to open up his business. He needed money to install the kitchen stove, hood, and grill. Bank of America turned down his loan request. Desperate for an infusion of cash, he took out a $6,000 loan with a 20 percent interest rate. Then he found out about a non-profit organization that provides loans under $25,000 to new businesses shunned by banks. The restaurant owner was able to get a loan at 12% interest without having to offer collateral.

The non-profit organization that offers this funding program looks at more than just credit history and collateral. According to a spokesperson for the program, "We look for people who have a good idea and who have put some sweat equity into the business,".

In the past this non-profit organization has out over loaned $20 million dollars.

There Is Financial Help For Needy College Students!

There is help available for families struggling with paying tuition for their kids!

Applications for student aid are up!

More and more families are appealing denied decisions for aid packages to get additional assistance as more and more parents are being rejected for loans.

Schools say they are doing what they can. For example:

  • One college that usually accepts aid appeals until mid-June has suspended their deadline so families whose fortunes suddenly change can appeal their aid package at any time. "We had so many families that seem to have financial circumstances that were changing negatively, we made a decision to continue to accept the appeals," says a spokesperson for the learning institution. The college's financial aid office has dealt with households with severe investment losses, small business owners whose companies have nose dived, families where both parents have lost jobs and a student who returned home for spring break to find her family's house in foreclosure.

  • A university is handling a 20 percent increase in aid appeals. Most of the appeals are due to job losses.

  • Another college that gives out about $1.1 million in grants to needy students says that year's pot of money has gone faster than usual, but the grants went to needier families than in years past.

  • A university has launched a campaign this year, so far raising $234,000 for students needing emergency aid to remain at the school. The money started being disbursed this month. It comes during a year when appeals are up 52 percent over last year and applications for government aid rose 12 percent as many higher-income families apply for the first time.

If you're having trouble with tuition bills, here are some options:

  • Pay through installments. Most schools allow you to pay tuition over a 10-month period. You'll pay a $50 to $100 fee, but you won't pay any interest. If you can swing the payments, this is better than a loan.

  • Get aid from Uncle Sam If you must borrow, government loans are the way to go. The fixed interest rate is lower than what private loans offer and the repayment terms are friendly. It's not too late to apply for a government student loan program. In fact, you can do so any time during the academic year. For instance one government student loan program limits this year are $5,500 for freshmen, $6,500 for sophomores and $7,500 each for juniors and seniors. In one particular government student loan program the new fixed rate for the loans are subsidized, meaning the government pays the interest while students are in school, is 5.6 percent. The rate for non-subsidized loans is 6.8 percent. You must show financial need to get a subsidized loan, but any student can qualify for a non-subsidized loan.

  • If student loans aren't enough to cover the tab, parents can take out a specific loan to make up the difference. The fixed rate is 8.5 percent, or 7.9 percent through the government's direct lending program. Parents can postpone repayment until six months after graduation. Parents must pass a credit check to get this loan.

Uncle Sam last year started cutting parents a little slack if they had fallen behind on a mortgage or medical bills. If parents are denied a the loan, students can borrow more under the government student loan program. The limits are $9,500 for freshmen, $10,500 for sophomores and $12,500 for juniors and seniors.

There are websites where strangers agree to lend students money and the website acts as the middleman in the transaction. About 10% of the students using these sites are funded and the terms are comparable to other other private loans.

It may be too late in the game to find scholarships for this coming fall, but it can't hurt to try searching online. If anything, you'll get a head start on scholarships for next year.

Over $90 Million Dollars

In Grant Money

Is Still Available

In Texas!

Non-profit organizations in the Texas area are eligible to apply for Millions in federal grant money to help them get back on their feet again. The grants will be distributed to agencies in any county declared a disaster area because of Hurricane Ike.

The grant money can be used in a wide array of organizations that provide services such as case management, adult and child day care, food programs and mental health care.

Unfortunately many of the smaller social service agencies that are eligible to apply for these same grants have little experience in applying for them. It would be very beneficial to them if they had a connection to a professional grantwriter or consultant who could help them to apply for these kinds of grants!

Applications for funding must be in by Aug. 25!.

The council will approve funding for agencies Sept. 15th.

Agencies seeking funding want to be able to use the grant money for:

  • One hospice care center has cited that the hurricane and a slowing economy have strained the agency’s ability to provide hospice care regardless of the client’s ability to pay. Says a spokesperson, "Getting some of the federal money could prove vital to keeping those services going".

  • Another non-profit organization that serves families of young patients who receive cancer and burn care would like to receive the funding to repair a broken elevator so it can make better use of its second floor.

A grant for $186,574 will allow a food bank to help launch a program stressing proper nutrition and fresh produce for low-income families. The food bank is launching a
two-year pilot program that seeks to supply fresh produce to area families. The food bank organization is a major supplier of emergency food supplies made available to low-income families in a local area region. Teaming up with an interfaith council provides the project established links to city neighborhoods. The hope is that by promoting proper nutrition and access to good food at affordable prices that program will produce results, particularly in the area of childhood obesity.

Childhood obesity in the area nationwide is "a perverse form of malnutrition" where often the most affordable foods are the least nutritious. "We want to learn ways to make affordable and nutritious food available to families.

The organization will explore urban agriculture, community gardens, and ways to bring produce grown on farms around the local area into the city's neighborhoods and corner stores and make it affordable to low-income families.

Animal Shelter Receives

$100,000 Grant!

An animal shelter has received a grant from a foundation to purchase enough vaccine to inoculate all its incoming dogs and puppies against kennel cough (infectious tracheobronchitis) for approximately one year. Kennel cough is similar to the common cold; it is a contagious virus that shelter managers would like to eradicate. It spreads rapidly, and treatment is costly. Shelters are often compelled by their budgets to euthanize otherwise adoptable dogs to stop the spread of the disease. The real key to stopping this scourge is prevention, and that's the aim of these kinds of grants: stopping kennel cough before it gets started.

The grants are part of a foundation's program. Funding is made possible through the foundation's partnership with another animal organization and individual donations.

A $41 Million Scholarship Program!

These scholarships are meant to encourage secondary school students to excel in their lessons and go on to a postsecondary institution. However, to a program that evaluates the efficiency of government programs, students are given no real incentives, as there are no requirements that must be met or set goals to be achieved. Absent of any defined standards, there is no way of knowing whether students who received this aid ever really “qualified” for the “coveted” scholarships. Furthermore, the law of this program does not allow the states to use any funding to determine whether or not the program is succeeding.

According to Harvard’s Office of Government, Community, and Public Affairs, Harvard received $535 million in federal grants in fiscal year 2008 that accounted for 82 percent of Harvard’s research revenue. Under the federal stimulus package, federal grants to Harvard are expected to increase considerably!

Energy efficiency upgrade grants

Grants for energy efficiency upgrades will address repair and renovation projects at state agencies, universities and community colleges that have been identified but not funded. Proposals for additional projects will be sought from public schools and local governments. The funding would cover items that generate significant energy savings, including: retro-commission HVAC controls; steam trap replacement, lighting fixture upgrades; boiler and water heater improvements; lab fume hood retrofits; chiller plant retro-commissioning; summer boiler installation; condensate recovery; heat pump and plumbing upgrades; incandescent exit light and bulb replacement; water saving toilets and shower heads; IT room HVAC renovations; building automation system upgrades; programmable thermostats; thermostatic radiator valves; sink aerators; occupancy sensors; photo/optical sensors; and exterior lighting upgrades to LED. $8 million has been set aside for this grant program.

Teacher receives a $140,000 grant for three years to help students learn more about math by building robots for competition!

Would You Like To Attend College In Florida with Financial Help?

Even though some colleges and universities may be hurting for financial aid there is still a little-known state program that provides grants for Florida residents who choose a private school! All permanent Florida residents attending in-state private colleges or universities are eligible for this grant program!

For example at one University in Florida ALL undergraduate students are eligible to get scholarship which starts at $7,500 for an incoming freshman and can go as high as $14,000!

There are also a number of state assistance programs that are available at a number of private colleges as well!.

Florida students also can apply for scholarships to private in-state colleges. There is also another program that pays a set amount per credit hour instead of the annual tuition covered at state schools.

At another private school over 20 students will be assisted with very substantial aid packages so they can afford to attend the private school. Minority and low income students are eligible to apply for this program! And there is yet another financial program to help assist the "non-traditional" student - meaning those who are returning back to school and /or those who are attending school at "non-traditional" hours (ie weekends and evenings).

Another grant program is being offered to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing an education program. The grant has a maximum value of $4,000 per year toward an annual tuition cost of $9,338.

At one university over 70% of the undergraduate student body received an average scholarship award of over $11,000!

There is one university that still offers a scholarship that covers full tuition, room and board and an honors competition will be added as well! At another educational facility there are scholarships being offered for music and dance, another scholarship program which offers free room and board for Naval ROTC students another scholarship program offers amounts of $500 and up for Catholic high school graduates who attended a certain school.

Bio-technology Company Receives A $3.4 Million Dollar Grant From The Government!

First off let me state that this grant award will span over a 2-year period.

The reason why this company is receiving the grant is because they will use the grant money to develop technology to advance vaccine research and development. This
technology will help with the development of vaccine systems used to protect
military personnel from biological agents.

(*On a more personal note, I really am not in favor of using animals as test models!)

Also the grant money will be used to continue the development of a trademarked technology for rapid generation of vaccine candidates and high-throughput testing in animal models. The work will be done in collaboration with another company. By creating multiple vaccine leads in parallel, the two companies hope to increase the odds of successfully advancing promising vaccines into late stage clinical trials.

This company also has vaccine programs in the areas of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), influenza, and encephalitic alphaviruses, which are funded through various external agencies. Researchers at this company have also generated thousands of lead candidates for their vaccine programs using their trademarked platform.

The company has announced that they are pleased that the government will continue
to fund their work.

The grant which was announced last month will allow the company to continue work done
under a previous contract with the Department of Defense.

The same company also has a HIV program that is also being funded by the U.S.
Government's National Institutes of Health and it's Small Business Grant Program
. The company has also received funding for the development of vaccines against influenza and encephalitic alphaviruses.

A recent news release contains forward-looking statements about the research and business prospects of the company including whether the Department of Defense will maintain its recent grant to them for the development of vaccine discovery technology and whether any other government agency that provides them with funding will maintain, renew or replace existing grants for any of their vaccine programs. Risk factors are more fully discussed in the company's Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2007, including under the caption "Risk Factors," and in
the company's other periodic reports filed with the SEC, all of which are
available from the company or from the SEC's website.

Basically what this all means is that the government does have grant programs for for-profit companies and if you noticed this grant program has to do with a small business!

This company is developing technology (biological) that will help in keeping their military less susceptible to biological threats!

Now I know that this may seem like a grant program that it out of your league but you should realize that the government has other needs as well and when they can't solve the problem themselves there will usually be a grant program created and /or a subcontractor (whether it be an individual or an entity) hired.

Grants & Single Mothers

(an excerpt)

"There are numerous foundations offering grants for single mother assistance. These foundations generally only require that the applicant be a single mother or the child of a single mother in order to be eligible for the grant. Some foundations offer grants to assist in paying off student loans. The applicant is often expect to perform community service or do volunteer work in order to qualify for the grant. Professional women who are willing to volunteer their professional services to the community are especially eligible for grants to repay student loan debt. Teachers who are also single mothers may qualify for these grants without doing additional volunteer service, as teaching is considered to be a contribution to the community in and of itself."

Do You Want To Go Back To School But Need Help With Daycare?

There is one college that has a program which is geared toward students with children. The program offers on-campus daycare and reimbursement for child-care expenses to students who qualify.

It also help students struggling to get back in the flow of math or other curriculum after being out of practice for years. Keeping students engaged in non-class activities helps pave the way for success.

Some of the activities included to help more older students adjust to the college campus life include events such as blood drives, exam preparation and career counseling. The college also offers programs for students of all ages who have hearing or sight loss, are in wheelchairs or have other special needs.

Many older students are involved in the Adult Life and Learning Program, which is geared toward them. Skills include computer classes and refresher courses, and range from flower arranging to phlebotomy.

Also as an added benefit, it seems that teachers and professors prefer having some older students in their classes.

Financial aid is always a concern, and usually the amount of financial aid that one gets is based on the student’s income, assets and circumstances. Each case is different. A good first step for anyone looking to attend college is to fill out a an application for federal student aid. You can fill out a financial aid form online by going to the website.

Financial aid is available for those who seek it.

"Work programs, grants, student loans and other programs designed for specific fields are widespread"

One student has said that scholarships help and their job pays for half. “I was amazed at how much financial aid there is out there.”

The biggest thing is quit making excuses because there are none.

“If you want to do it, you can do it!

Here is another college.......

At another college, dozens of students receive scholarships. There are scholarships based on academics, ethnicity, need, course of study, for women re-entering the workforce,, for community heroes and a variety of other reasons.

There are scholarships for dual enrollment students, scholarships for nursing, those in teacher education, and even incarcerated students through the college's prison program.

"There are drawers full of scholarships but students need to apply and to apply early," said the college's scholarship coordinator.

"If you are planning on going to college you need to plan ahead. A lot of students seem to wait until the last minute to apply. Don't wait until crunch time.

Students who apply early not only have more scholarships to chose from but also have more time to meet with academic advisers and counselors.

Although this is the best time to apply for scholarships to attend college in the fall, scholarships are awarded throughout the year.

Last week, nearly a dozen nursing students were awarded $1,000 scholarships!

The scholarship money means that one student won't have to pick up an extra graveyard shift to pay for daycare while she goes to school full time, works part time and takes care of her two children. "I was so excited because I have never gotten a scholarship before," said the student. The 23-year-old mother of a 3-year old and an 8-month-old has been taking her nursing prerequisites at the college for the last couple of years. In January, she started her first semester of nursing classes and didn't know how she would pay for daycare. "This is a great big help. There would have been no time to study and take care of the kids," she said.

Another student who is taking online courses offered by the college has also received a scholarship! "I was very excited to get the scholarship. I couldn't believe it," he said. He plans to use the scholarship for tuition and expenses.

For more information about this college and their financial assistance and scholarship programs you can contact them by phone or via their website.

Grant Programs Available For Nursing?

There are so many grant programs available for nursing that it is not even funny!

What you have to realize is that there is such a need for nurses that the government (and other organizations as well) are willing to provide financial programs to help those who want a nursing career!

Here are a few examples of the funding programs that are out there that are available to those who are seeking a career in nursing:

  • One national nursing association has scholarship information on their website and financial aid for nursing students. They offer a $2,500 nursing scholarship to a deserving student every 60 days. In order to assist worthy applicants who are not selected, they have also expanded their online database which lists hundreds of grants and scholarship opportunities.

  • There is another organization whose purpose is to encourage the research career development of all nurses. To effectively achieve this goal, the program supports research of beginning and experienced nurse researchers. In all award categories, the principal investigator must be a licensed registered nurse who has obtained at least one degree, either a baccalaureate degree or higher, in nursing. Beginning and experienced nurse researchers are encouraged to apply. Grants range from $3,000 to $25,000.

Beginning researcher: A nurse who has no more than three research-based publications in referenced journals and has received, as principal investigator, no more than $15,000 in extramural funding in one particular research area. Note: other funds obtained in support of the project submitted for funding consideration will not be considered in the $15,000 limitation.

Experienced researcher: A nurse who has more than three research-based journal\publications and has received more than, $15,000 as principal investigator, in research funding since their degree.

  • Another foundation offers financial support to students enrolled in nursing schools and to perioperative nurses pursuing bachelors, masters, or doctoral degrees. "With the critical nursing shortage and the cost of higher education, this foundation knows it is of the utmost importance to fund scholarships for students pursuing careers in nursing and for nurses advancing their professional careers."

*Educational Grants: Complex patient needs, new advances in technology, and economic pressures are driving the need for more education. Nurses need innovative continuing education programs to maintain competency and to ensure safe and high-quality patient care. This foundation is committed to provide continuing education grant funds to meet these needs.

  • Another grant program offers two annual scholarships of up to $17,500 each for minority students pursuing degrees in nursing and rehabilitation therapy programs.

  • There are also a lot of "smaller" programs meaning that they are offered on a state level but there are many of these state programs available and the chances are good that your state has such a program!

So if you want to have a career in nursing and are looking for financial help in the form of grants (money that you do not have to pay back) and not loans then you should that there are many grant programs out there for those that want to pursue a career in nursing.

If people (so-called "experts") say that there are no such grant programs for nursing then kindly show them this blog post!

Students - Are You Looking For Money To Attend College?

Well you may not have to! There is a growing trend of colleges and universities that are elimination student loan packages and replacing them with grant packages - grants meaning money that you do not have to pay back!

There is even one well known university where if your parents make under $50,000 a year, you don't have to pay anything to attend!

The list of colleges and universities that are following this trend is growing. I have a list of these colleges and universities that I give to my clients upon request.

Students?

It never ceases to amaze me how many times I have seen students who post that they are looking for scholarships and other types of funding to continue their education! While they might get some good leads and references from others online why don't they just go to the financial aid offices of their schools? Here are some excerpts from my Grant Basics 101 blog:

There is a government program that provides tuition costs to white students who want to attend black colleges!

excerpted from The Reader's Digest - Learn to haggle - Some private colleges have become used to hearing parents say, "Even with your aid offer of $10,000, I still can't swing the other $15,000." In fact, in 1994 New York University heard some 1000 variations on that theme - and listened. The school increased grant money for about 650 of those parents. Schools may be willing to reconsider your aid package. But first you must convince them that you are less well off than they thought. Losing your job is a clear ground for appeal. But don't get too aggressive or try to bluff.

Do you realize that there are funding programs out there that will pay the full cost of your tuition! For those students that are studying to become nurses there are funding programs out there that will pay your full tuition costs? There are even some fellowship programs that pay for you to study overseas and will pay you a regular stipend besides! That means that your tuition costs will be paid PLUS you'll be getting paid by them with money paid directly to you to live! If you're an engineering student there are more funding programs than you can ever use and these funding programs are not student loans but funding programs that you do NOT have to pay back!

All in all if you want to be able to go to college and are looking for ways to finance your going to college without having to pay it back then you should be looking into the many funding programs that are out there that are available to you to apply for! Some of these funding programs go without applicants and either that money is rolled into the next year's funding program or that funding program is discontinued due to lack of interest!
