Another Grant Program Providing Free Homes To Veterans!
Previously I blogged about a program that provides free homes to veterans. I have now found yet another program that is doing the same thing!
Some injured vets are getting help from what may seem an unlikely source!
One recipient and his wife were rewarded with an unexpected gift: a home built especially for them, mortgage-free.
This program was started to help give wounded veterans a place to call home and is a way of saying thanks.
Since 2005, this organization has built four houses. Five more are under construction, and the idea is being expanded into a national campaign.
The program started when the founder of this organization met a U.S. Marine that had been gravely injured in Iraq. The injured vet desperately needed to remodel his house to accommodate his son's wheelchair. "I had no idea how I was going to pay for it," he said. "I just knew that I had to get it done."
The founder of the organization mobilized an army of carpenters, plumbers and suppliers who took on the remodeling job for free. They widened doorways, built a ramp to the back door and made the bathroom handicapped-accessible. Anything that needed to be done was taken care of.
With donations from suppliers and contractors the group can build a $300,000 house for $25,000 to $50,000. Each house is fully furnished and customized to meet the needs of each family and is mortgage-free. The group also covers the taxes and insurance for two years!
Another recipient of this program who received a free home in November 2008 turned his fortune around. He is now studying for his doctorate in public safety; his wife earned her master's degree and is now a special education teacher.
The organization is determined to help as many families as they can. They are trying to enlist builders' associations across the country to join the crusade, with the goal of building 100 homes.

"I Think You Are A Scam Artist......"
Here is a recent comment that I have gotten:
i just want to say what a scam and rip off artist i think you are..you are one these high class snobs that wants to get rich quick at the exspense of less fortunate honest people..and by reading down thru the page,it sounds to me like you have really got a bad&smart a.... attitude..i am a disabled combat veteran, and i need financial grant help, along with many other veterans, because our fine govt.says they cant help us..then comes along people like you, slivering around like an ole snake scamming people so you can live high on the hog..right now,i dont have $9.25 let alone $925,and i know there is many other people feel the same way..i gave 10 years of my life to help assure your safety and freedom for the soil you walk on.now i think that is worth something........."
It is not only me that thinks that is worth something but our government also believes that it is worth something and that is why there are so many grant and financial programs that are available to veterans like yourself. My own brother is a veteran and he receives quite a few benefits both financial and otherwise from the government and other entities as well.
Please understand that information about government grant programs has to be made accessible to the public which means that you can find information about government grants at your local library and our own government's website as well! As for the other grant programs that are available to veterans from other organizations you need only to start looking and doing some research online - for a start.
If you really need help financially you should start at your local social services agency because that is what they are there for. Our tax dollars are what pays for them to be there.
There are financial grant programs out there that are available for veterans. As a matter of fact there is a grant program that provides a free house to veterans!
Can you tell me anything that you have done to seek any of these programs out? Because they are out there and available for people like you who qualify to apply.
I am glad that you sent me this comment because it further allows me to tell people that there is financial help out there available for those that qualify for it and all they have to do is to start looking for them. Have you started to do that?
Here are just a few of the kinds of programs that are available to eligible veterans:
- A little-known grant program is available for disabled veterans to help them get started in their own business. The grant award amout can be up to $10,000 and can be explored by contacting your local VA office. You can also write to them using a specific address and you can also e-mail them as well as calling their toll-free number! To learn more, visit their website.
- There is an organization that injured veterans can apply to receive homes free of any mortgage.
One area is receiving $100,000 for a rebate program, which provides a rebate to people who purchase Energy Star qualified home appliances like air conditioners and water heaters. The purpose of this rebate program is to help reduce residential utility bills! |

$29 Million Dollar Grant Program To Help Afghan Women
*Please note that the due date of this grant program is January 29, 2009!
This grant program was implemented to help empower Afghanistan women.
While this specific grant program is not to help the women individually it does provide grants for those organizations to provide grants to Afghanistan women!
Because it is now their constitutional right to be provided equal rights for women, they now have an official framework to support their personal and professional development. However, all indicators of women’s status reveal that enforcement of constitutional rights lags far behind enactment. A combination of poverty and deprivation, ill health, illiteracy, discriminatory customary laws, harmful traditional practices, and physical and emotional abuse conspire to keep women at the bottom of society.
To ensure they receive sufficient attention, women’s organizations are needed to advocate on behalf of these women and help mobilize resources, deliver essential services, and implement useful development activities. However, some of these organizations cannot effectively undertake these tasks until they acquire a wide range of new skills—from assessing needs, designing responsive interventions, and implementing programs to managing operations, finances and people, building alliances and networks, planning strategically, and monitoring and evaluating performance—in addition to building capacity in the technical sectors in which they wish to work.
This three-year $26.7 million program is designed to strengthen the capacity of these organizations to contribute to the social, economic, and political development of Afghan women through the provision of financial and technical assistance to support women-specific activities in the following areas:
- Implementing activities that improve the status, safety and well being, human and legal rights, and livelihoods of Afghan women and girls
- Delivering services that directly address the social, political, and economic needs of Afghan women and girls
- Undertaking efforts to increase the participation of Afghan women in development as implementers, change agents and beneficiaries
- Creating or strengthening mechanisms and channels by which Afghan women can access information, network, and take advantage of personal and professional development opportunities.
Applicants will propose approaches to implementing the following Activity Components and indicate how those approaches will help accomplish the Activity Objectives:
- Awarding sub-grants for technical and organizational capacity building of eligible organizations, including equipment, and for the activities of such organizations
- Assessing organizational and technical capacity needs of eligible organizations and developing responsive interventions
- Overseeing sub-grant implementation to ensure that in addition to successful implementation of activities, the organization's institutional strengthening and technical capacity building within recipient organizations is achieved
- To support the above components, developing and implementing a comprehensive communications plan and strategy to generate widespread interest in the sub-grant program among the women’s organizations and to develop and manage an information campaign about the program to inform other stakeholders.
The following link will take prospective applicants who are interested in this high visibility program to the full solicitation. Be sure to click on the link that says "Download Application Instructions.”
Did you know that there is a charitable organization that provides homes for injured veterans? Successful applicants will not even have to pay a mortgage on their free home! They will be provided homes free of ANY mortgage! |

You can also qualify if you are a family member of a veteran, usually in the first degree. This means that if you are a child of a retired military or a veteran, you can also qualify for the government's free housing grant.
