USDA invites applications for farmer-related grants

The USDA has announced that applications are being accepted for grants to provide economic assistance to independent producers, farmer and rancher cooperatives and agricultural producer groups through a grant Program.

"By creating value-added products, farmers and ranchers can expand economic opportunities, create jobs and keep wealth in rural communities," said a representative of the grant program. "These funding opportunities will promote business expansion and entrepreneurship by helping local businesses get access to capital, technical assistance and new markets for their products and services."

For example, in one county owners of a farm, received a grant to expand their processing capacity to produce beach plum jams and jellies, juice, and puree for retail and wholesale markets.

Located in Calif., a produce business, independent producers of organic and conventional cooking greens they received a grant for socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. With this grant, the owner has been able to expand markets for their products and increase revenues.

Grants may be used for feasibility studies or business plans, working capital for marketing value-added agricultural products and for farm-based renewable energy projects.

Eligible applicants include independent producers, farmer and rancher cooperatives, and agricultural producer groups.

USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs through a national network of state and local offices. Rural Development has an existing portfolio of more than $150 billion in loans and loan guarantees. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America.

Hey Rose! :) I saw your post on Aidepage. I was wondering if you happen to know of any grants to help women of Domestic violence, who are trying to get a home, and help getting back on their feet? I'm originally from Pa, moved to TN and found myself trapped. About a year and a half ago I tried to get out and the shelter wasn't able to get the funds to help, and my family was useless. Due to depression and the girls I just gave up and came back. The past year has been a nightmare and he is taking it out mentally on the 14 year old and I don't know how much more I can take before I end up being one of those women on the tv show SNAPPED. I am desperately in need of help. Any info you can give me would be great. Thank you much hun, have a great day!

There are a lot of Domestic groups out there that may be able to help you. What you should do is take some time out and go to your local library to find out more information.

I will have to check my files to see if there are any groups/grant programs that may be able to help you.

This grant program started in 1983 and has awarded grants to approximately 84 artists.

Some distinguished  alumni include  a ceramics artist, a printmaker and a sculptor.

Grant Programs For Churches!

Several local churches and nonprofits recently received aid for programs and construction from an Endowment Funding Program!

The philanthropic organization announced grants totaling more than $250,000 to eight local churches and nonprofit organizations, a small piece of the $98 million the endowment has distributed in its first two quarters.

Those grants will go toward a range of projects for six United Methodist churches as well as operational costs for a Children's Home and the Baptist Children's Home.

Two of the churches will use their grant money funds for a family life center and fellowship hall, respectively. The pastor of one of the churches said that their church's new fellowship hall, which will cost a total of $2.2 million, will seat 400 and feature a stage, kitchen, basketball goals and storage space! "It will provide more space for our congregation to assemble for fellowship. We hope it will impact the community and grow the church."

The church has also received an additional $100,000 from the endowment earmarked to make the facility environmentally friendly. Upon its completion the 12,000-square-foot facility will be a marvel of energy efficiency, using natural light, low-flow toilets and a number of other "green" features to minimize the building's effect on the environment.

The organization that funds these endowment grants, which have been handed out yearly since they were established go toward education, health care, child care and rural Methodist churches. The grants for the six churches came from a church division of the endowment's funding program.

Several of the grants, which range from $15,000 to $50,000, will go toward establishing or supporting church-sponsored after-school programs. One spokesperson has said that the endowment funds will go a long way toward supplying materials for the children it serves and will help underprivileged children be a part of it in the form of tuition aid. "It's going to make it possible for (families) who can't afford child care," she said.

One of the organizations that received the grant funding which got off the ground with the help of endowment funds last year, serves children five days a week between 2:30 and 6 p.m. and also provides all-day care during the summer months. The church applied for the grant last year and received a three-year commitment from the Endowment Program for $50,000 a year. Those funds have helped the church attain its goal of reaching out to families throughout the community.

Do You Need A Car For Work?

Grant Received To Study The Benefits Of Generosity!

You heard it right! A sociologist has been awarded a grant to study generosity! The amount of the grant was $140,000!



This grant was awarded by an organization to study how social, economic and political structures affect individuals' generosity toward one another.



This study is one of 13 research projects to receive funding from this organization, which promotes research on generosity, altruism, philanthropy and related issues and shares those findings with corporate, civic, religious and philanthropic communities.


According to the grant recipient, "We are hoping to identify not only the individual characteristics associated with generosity but also the larger social forces that shape generosity.



The organization that is providing this grant is distributing $1.4 million to nine projects. Four other projects were funded earlier.


In two rounds of competition the oranization received almost 700 research proposals, and 13 projects gradually emerged as the most scientifically rigorous and promising.
