"How Can I Apply For A Government Grant?"

"
How Can I Apply For A Government Grant?"

"How Can I Apply For A Daycare Grant?"

I have seen this question asked a lot and I think that I may even have answered this question before on this blog but here is the answer again.

It depends on the type of government grant you are looking for - and please bear in mind that it is not only the government that has grant programs.!

If you are looking for only official government grant programs then you can visit the government's official website! There you will find a current list of the official government grant programs.

If you are looking for a government grant program to help you pay your bills, it becomes a bit more difficult!

Here Is Another Myth About Government Grants!

A government grant is an award of financial assistance from a government agency to a recipient to carry out a public purpose of support or stimulation authorized by a law of that country. Grants are not loans or assistance to individuals."

This is yet another myth about government grants. You really have to look into government grants to find out the truth - which is that there are many, many programs out there that are government grants that provide financial assistance to individuals.

The one that comes to my mind is the government grant program that provides financial assistance to those that are having problems paying their heating bills - especially during the winters when it is most needed. This is a government grant program where you have to fill out some paperwork to show that you meet the eligibility requirements and if you do meet them they will provide a payment to your heating / utility company. This is a government grant program that you do not have to pay back!

There is yet another grant program that provides loans to homeowners who are having trouble making their mortgage payments and who maybe facing foreclosure. This is a government loan program and it is not a government grant.

These are just 2 examples that dispel the myth that is mentioned above. If you have your doubts about government grant programs, the best way to solve that doubt is to find out more about government grants and what they are all about.

If You Are Looking For Scholarships.............

If you are looking for free scholarships why don't you start your search online? The internet would be the very best place to start looking for scholarships. The only place that is more better for looking for scholarships is the financial aid offices of the schools that you want to apply for.

Got to a bookstore or your local library to find free books that list scholarship and grant information programs.

The very best warning signal as to whether it is a scam or not is if you are promised the scholarship (or grant). The normal process involves you having to apply for the scholarship or grant and your application has to be reviewed and hopefully approved!

Thinking About Starting A Group Home? Here's An Excerpt.....

Are you thinking about starting a group home? Here is a copy of a reply that I gave to someone who wanted to know more about how to start a group home.

Do you have anything specific in mind as to what kind of children will be in your group home? Are they going to live there? Will you be taking handicapped / disabled children, etc., what? The general definition of a group home is:

Group homes are small, residential facilities located within a community and designed to serve children or adults with chronic disabilities. These homes usually have six or fewer occupants and are staffed 24 hours a day by trained caregivers.

Since the passage of an Act in 1963, grants have been available to group homes. State and federal funds such as the Medicaid Home continue to support the majority of group homes. However, some homes operate on donations from private citizens or civic and religious organizations. Most group homes are owned by private rather than governmental organizations, and can be either non-profit or for-profit organizations.

One thing that you should be well aware of is that where ever you want your group home to be you will have to get the permission of the neighborhood locality! You will have to present your plans to them and hopefully they will approve it. You just can't "set up" a group home without getting prior approval.

If you do a little bit of research online you will definitely find a wealth of information about starting a group how!

Grant(s) To Help Start A Business?

"I am trying to find a type of grant for a vehicle so I can start a delivery business. If anyone has any ideas please let me know."

Most of the grant programs that I have seen to help one start a business basically start out with you having to submit a business plan (and hopefully you have one!)

If you are a minority then there is a grant program that you can apply for that awards up to $35,000 so that you can start your own business - but pleased be advised that you will have to submit a business plan in order to apply!

Many states (and more local areas) are starting (or already have) grant programs to help locals / residents start a business but again be advised that you will have to submit a business plan (in most of them). So you can also start checking your state (and more local) website(s) to see what kind of grant programs that they have available.

What Should You Do If You Get A Shut-Off Notice?

What should you do if you receive a shut off notice? The first piece of advice that I can give to you would be for you to call your utility company and see if there is a way that you can make some kind of payment arrangement with them.

I know that in my own area the utility company will send you information about programs that they may have to help you with your utility bill(s). While this may not be considered as free money exactly, it is a way to be able to get your utility bill balance lowered.

You should also know that - at least in my area - the utility company has someone that they have to answer to and if you feel that you are not being treated fairly by your utility company then you can report them!

There are also grant programs out there that may be able to help you as well. Here is a link to a blog post from someone who managed to get 2 government grants to help get their heating turned back on!

There may also be an organization or charity that may be able to provide financial assistance to help you with your bills. I know of one local organization in my area that will provide a payment to your utility company to help you with your bill if you receive a shut off notice. All you have to do is send or fax them a copy of your shut off notice to prove that you really did get a shut-off notice.

I am also starting to notice that there are quite a few websites out there that will let you request money. Some of these sites require you to submit documentation as proof but I know of at least one website where you can request up to $1000 and sometimes even more if your reason is compelling enough. All you have to do is submit your request of how much money you would like to have and what you need that money for. As I stated in a previous here on this blog, I have seen people receive as much as $500!

*Another source of money that you may not be aware of is unclaimed money. You can find out more about unclaimed money by visiting my blog - The Unclaimed Money Blog.

Free Grants For Dental Care!

Many people are unaware of the services in their own home town. The ones that do know about it think it's only for helping handicapped citizens. Wrong. This program is in a position to help with free surgery, dental work and much, much more.

If you are employed, but a health problem may prevent you from continuing to work, your local office can help. Especially convenient for those who need a major operation, but have no insurance, This organization will pay for the doctors' visits, medication, actual surgery, recuperative equipment and physical therapy, as well as major dental work, too.

Please look in your area to see if you are eligible to apply for this program!

Are There Any Government Grant Programs To Help Pay Off Debt?

Government Grant Programs To Help Pay Off Your Debt

Grant Programs To Help Pay Off Your Credit Card Debt

Are there any government grant programs to help pay off a person's debt? Well I saw an online article that said that there were indeed government grant programs out there to help pay off a person's debt - including help to pay off one's credit card debt.

The article went on to say that all you had to do to find these government grant programs was to go to our government's official website where you could go through the list of the currently available government grant programs to find the current government grant programs that will help you pay off your credit card (and other) debt.

I have been to the official government grant website
many, many times and I have still not yet found such a government grant program specifically for those that want to pay off their credit card debt.

So, Are there any government grant programs to help pay off credit card (and other) debts? The answer is MAYBE!

While I have not found any government grant programs (yet) to help one pay off their credit card debt, I HAVE found grant programs where you can use the grant money to help pay your bills! For instance:

  • there is a grant program to help one start their own business. One of the requirements is that you have to be a minority and you also have to submit a business plan in order to be eligible to apply. What is the grant award for this grant program? $20,000! And since this grant is for you to help start your own business some of this grant money can be used to help pay some of your bills.

  • Did you know that there is a grant program that awards over $250,000 in grant money and you can use that grant money for anything you want! and that includes paying your bills, buying a car, etc. All you have to do is to be eligible to apply for this grant and meet their eligibility requirements. However please bear in mind that this is NOT a government grant program. This is a grant program that is being provided by a foundation that is in the United States but is not part of the government. You can find out more information about this particular grant program by clicking here.

So, are there are government grant programs to help pay off credit card debt? I haven't found any government grant programs (yet) that do this but I have found other grant programs where you can use your grant money to pay off your bills. These are not government grant programs but they are grant programs that are being offered by other organizations outside of the government grant programs.

Grants For Women - Are There Any?

Are There Grants

For Women?

Are there grants for women ? Are there free grants for women?

Basically the answer is yes but there is a big BUT here! Of course there are grants for women out there and since the definition of a free grant means that you don't have to pay it back then - yes - there are free grants for women that are out there!

However it is going to depend on WHAT you want the grant for! There is no one "free grant program
" for women because it will depend on what you want the grant for.

There are a number of business grants for women
that are out there. For instance there is a "free" grant program for minority women who want to start their own business. This is not a free government grant program but a business grant program that is being provided by an organization. It is a free grant program in that you pay nothing to apply for it and if you win the grant you could receive as much as $20,000 to start your own business. Of course this particular grant program is not just for minority women, it is a grant program for minority people.

There is an investor who is offering a lot of money to those who can come up with a viable business plan. If this investor likes your business plan then he will fund it!

What other kind of grants for women are out there? Many! There are numerous grant and scholarship programs for women who want to return to school. There are even some grant programs that will help pay for daycare for single mothers. There are free grant programs for women writers and artists as well!

If you go to the government's official website you will see that they have grant programs for ALL to apply and of course that includes women as well as individuals and small businesses that are for-profit.

I never quite understood how people could say that the government doesn't have grant programs for for-profit businesses when it says so right on the government website!

Of course the problem seems to be that grant programs for women are hard to find (at least that is what I am hearing) and like I noted above not all grant programs are being offered by the government. There are a number of organizations that have grant programs for women including business grant programs for women. However since they are not government grant programs that may make them a little bit more harder to find. If it was a government grant program you could simply go to the government's official website and look up their government grant programs to find ones that you are eligible for. However the grant programs for women that are not government grant programs are a little bit more harder to find but the majority of them do have websites. It just takes doing some research in order to find them.

About Government Grants - An Excerpt!

Here is an excerpt from an online article:

"
No matter what type of business you are interested in establishing, how big or small, who you are, where it is located, there is a business grant, or several, to support your ventures........

You may be able to acquire a small business grant to finance a modest online business run from your home, to minority grant to open an ethnic heritage center in a culturally rich neighborhood, to several generous grants for real estate to establish your own realty company.....

Thousands of stay at home mothers are acquiring day care grants and single mothers grants to start their own day care centers, and make money on day care, while saving on day care and spending more time with their children.....

The generosity on the government's part towards the small business owner is really quite amazing, and the eligibility requirements to receive free government financial aid are really quite few......................
"

$25 Million To Spend!

One organization has $25 Million Dollars to spend to help encourage innovative ideas to help advance journalism using the digital medium!

This year a project to build and maintain a crowd-sourced database of primary source material for use by investigative reporters was awarded a grant of $719,000! The grant recipient(s) included a pairing of a well-known newspaper and a non-profit news organization. The project was an initiative that sought to break the habits of reporters who threw stories and documents away after the story faded - whereas those documents were never going to be used again. The four-member team "aims to provide an online database of documents contributed by a consortium of news organizations, watchdog groups and bloggers, and shared with the public at large. Users will be able to search by topic, agency or location. Reporters will benefit from the wisdom of the crowd, which will be able to collaboratively examine large document sets.

This grant program is open to the public! This means that individuals and even for-profit businesses can apply!

Other grant recipients include:

  • A $300,000 was awarded to a website to post mistakes by journalists! The idea is to have those that comment to engage the journalist and discuss whether a correction or additional reporting is warranted. This will be used to help show errors that news organizations make and show which news organizations are responsible to public questions and comments.

  • Another individual received a $200,000 grant to create a downloadable production tool for various mobile phone platforms. The toolkit will include applications for video and audio recording, a distribution tool for mobile content to social media sites and detailed how-to information that outlines what users can do with the phones they have.

  • Another grant recipient received a grant of $250,000 to expand their state's council coverage by a local newspaper and allow them to create a wiki devoted to local legislators.

Publishing files on the Web that were originally created for print publications has always been a challenge, especially for small community newspapers. News organizations have typically solved the problem by creating proprietary publishing systems for their sole benefit. This grant will create new and easy ways to use tools that will allow news organizations to essentially drag and drop articles onto an online news site. The process will save news organizations, particularly small community newspapers, significant time, money and manpower, allowing them to direct their resources to bring their community the news and information it needs.

My Grant Basics 101 Podcast!

I have just started my own Grant Basics 101 Podcast!

It's just in its beginning stages!

If you take a look on the left side of this blog you will see the widget for the podcast. You can also go to the podcast page by clicking here.

Like I posted above this podcast is in it's beginning stages but there is already one caller who called asking about possible grants for their for-profit daycare business and I gave my reply to them.

I hope to be adding more content to the podcast very soon!

Home Owners In Louisiana May Be Eligible For Cash Grants!

This money is from a government program that was put in place to bring insurance companies to the state. (No doubt this has to do with the effects of hurricane Katrina and all the home insurance problems stemming from that).

This is UNUSED money from one of the expired 2007 government grant programs! The funding was originally set up as a matching grants program for private insurance companies that agreed to begin writing policies in the nearby coastal areas. It was targeted for improving a homeowners' access to private insurance after the 2005 hurricanes, and to reduce the number of policies written by the state's insurer.

The insurance department issued $29 million in grants, and state law says the remaining money should be divvied up and given to holders of homeowners policies.

$2 Million in Grants to Help Persons

with Disabilities Stay in Their Own Homes!

This will be a statewide program that adds ramps, chair lifts and other features to homes so low-income seniors and residents with disabilities can continue to live in their communities. The state's Housing Development Authority will allocate the grant money to 14 non-profit organizations and public agencies around the state to administer the program.

New Ruling For Government Contractors - Maybe?

The U. S. Chamber of Commerce has filed a lawsuit against a new government ruling that says that businesses must file online if they want to be considered for government contracting work.

Originally the ruling was going to take effect on February 15th of this year but since the lawsuit has been filed the date has been moved back. The lawsuit contends the government doesn't have the authority to make E-Verify mandatory for contractors.

The online verification process provides an Internet-based means for employers to compare the names and Social Security numbers of newly hired employees against government databases. So far about 100,000 businesses have participated in the program, which is now voluntary. Under a regulation issued Nov. 14, however, companies that receive federal contracts of $100,000 or more must use the online verification process to confirm the employment eligibility of all new hires and reconfirm the eligibility of existing employees that are assigned to federal contracts. These requirements also apply to most subcontractors.

It is hoped that the delay in the rule's effective date will give the new Obama administration "an opportunity to re-evaluate the efficiency of the policy.

You can find out more information about this online.

Basically what this means is that if you are considering becoming a government contractor once you are awarded a federal contract worth more than $100,000 that has a performance term of 120 days or more, or if you have a subcontract worth more than $3,000, you will have 30 days to enroll in the federal contractor online verification program. Enrolling involves signing a non-negotiable Memorandum and registering the individuals who will be using the system.

If you and / or your business are considering becoming a government contractor then I suggest that you take a look at their online user's manual that explains more in detail.. This online manual will help you to get an idea of your options and what it will be like to use the system. The people you select to be “users” of the system will have to register and take the on-line tutorial before you can actually begin using the system.

You might want to register now and begin using the standard online verification system for new hires to give you a chance to get a head start before the deadline. If you are already enrolled in the online verification program as of January 15, 2009, and you have a qualifying contract or subcontract, you will have to modify your enrollment to switch to the federal contractor version. Within 90 days of enrollment as a federal contractor, you will have to begin using the new verification process for all new hires in the U.S. (including people who are not working directly on a federal contract), within three days after the employee begins working for pay.

You will also need to become familiar with some of the rules for avoiding discrimination while using the new online verification process. They are listed in the online user manual.

then (until a final decision is made)

Our US Government Starting A Grant Program For Those In Haiti Who Want To Start Their Own Business

A $2 Million Dollar Investment Fund has been set up to help those Haitian Americans who have long dreamed of starting a business of their own but have lacked the capital to do so.

Requirements to be eligible for this funding include having a viable business plan and applicants must be willing to partner with Haiti's private sector to create jobs in the country.

This grant funding program is still in the process of being designed but applicants will be allowed to apply for up to $100,000 (£54,000) grants.

The US House of Representatives has approved the inclusion of $100m for hurricane relief and reconstruction assistance to Haiti and other Caribbean nations. So far the US has committed $30m in emergency relief to the island so far, including $2m for emergency bridges to help reconnect the country after eight major bridges collapsed. Also, with more than half of this year's harvest destroyed, the US program is redirecting the $279 Million Dollars it had already committed to the country to address agriculture needs and other concerns.

Greetings Rose,

My name is G~ and I found information about you as it relates to grant funding from google.com. While I don't want to take up much of your time, I believe that it is very necessary for me to ask for your assistance. My family is in a financial crisis and in need of grant funding to eliminate certain bils such as late mortgage payments, utility bills and other past due bills, credit cards and if possible, we are in need of funding for repairs to our home. Both my wife and I are disabled, we reside in Biloxi, Mississippi and we are african american. Although we are employed full time, our checks along are not nearly enough to deal with our overall costs for living, especially when you factor in the medical and work related transportation expenses. If you could be of any help at all, please reply to this inquiry as it is very important to us. If you offer any grant writing/proposal services please inform us of your pricing. If you are unable to assist us at all, we understand, please accept our apologies and I will not contact you any longer. We truly thank you for taking the time to reply to this inquiry and we truly thank you very much for your anticipated support and understanding.

The basic title of the services that I perform is called grant reasearch - which means I find grant programs that my clients are eligible to apply for.

Once they receive the grant program information they then decide whether or not they want to apply for the programs themselves or whether or not they want a grantwriter - either me or someone else they choose - to write the grant(s) proposal(s) for them.

Grant Program Discrepencies?

Investigators from the Department of the Interior found that $5.7 million in contracts that were supposed to go to "small businesses" were actually given to several Fortune 500 companies! The problem seems to have been brought about when it was found that some government workers "often click through mindlessly when entering information" into the computer system thus bringing about the errors! Some of the businesses that benefited from these errors includ Sherwin Williams and Home Depot! Other businesses and state agencies have also received money when they were ineligible to do so!

Although a small percentage of grant monies went to the wrong (or ineligible) recipient, such an investigation raises concern! It is not known whether or not the funded money will be returned.
