Yet ANOTHER Grant Program For Individual Artists!

The funding program is accepting applications for its Grants Program for artists and organizations.

"A portion of the funds raised through the organization annual campaign will again be allocated for grants for artist career development and artistic projects that benefit the cultural life of their area.

A spokesperson said grants up to $500 are available to organizations and to individual artists in all disciplines.

Eligible organizations must have non-profit status and may include libraries, municipalities, churches and other community groups.

An artist who has been a county resident for at least one year and works in any artistic discipline, including crafts, choreography, film, fiction, poetry, printmaking, sculpture, painting, video, play writing, performance, music composition and photography, may apply for this grant program. Funding priority will be given to those applicants who demonstrate that a fellowship would have significant career impact.

Grant applications are accepted only by mail and must be postmarked by Thursday, March 15.

All applications are screened for eligibility and fulfillment of application requirements. An allocations panel made up of artists and community leaders reviews applications and presents funding recommendations to the board for approval.

Artists and community organizations interested in applying for funding can obtain application information and funding criteria online at the organization's website or by phone.

Yet Another Grant Program For Artists!

Jazz, contemporary dance and theater artists who now dream of getting a phone call from a Foundation telling them they’ve won a $500,000 grant” can add another plausible fantasy to their list: a $275,000 phone call from another Charitable Foundation.

The $1.6-billion New York City-based foundation announced this week that it’s committing $50 million over the next 10 years to a special Performing Artists Initiative that will provide up to $27.5 million to 100 well-established “leading artists” and up to $8 million for 100 emerging figures. The balance, about $14.5 million, will go to administer the program and to fund an initiative in which individual artists will pair with dance companies, theater companies and performing arts presenters for four months of residencies spread over two or three years. At least 50 residency awards of $75,000 or $150,000 will be made, starting in 2013.

The new infusion, which Foundation says is “the largest allocation of cash grants ever given to artists in these fields,” will be on top of the Foundation’s regular arts giving, which has totaled $13.1 million a year since 2009 -– down from about $18 million before the financial crash and recession whittled its investment holdings.

In distributing $3.5 million in average annual grants to individuals during the coming decade, the Foundation will become the nation’s leading charitable funder of individual artists -– although it will take a few years to ramp up to that level. L.A.-based United States Artists awards $2.5 million annually, providing no-strings, one-year grants of $50,000 each to 50 mid-career USA Fellows who work in various visual, performing and literary disciplines. Last year, United States Artists kicked off a $50-million endowment campaign aimed at ensuring that its grants will continue “in perpetuity.”

The idea, is to fund artists who are in a fertile period of their career and are “passionate and pushing forward.” It’s not “a lifetime achievement award looking backward.”

Jazz musicians known for great chops but not original material or innovative approaches, and dancers and actors who mainly just play their roles (sublime as the results may be), need not wait for a call next spring. the winners will be “generative artists, people who are creating and pushing the art form forward, not necessarily playing something that someone else gave them. It means they’re doing something beyond simply acting out a role.”

While the individual grants are bigger, the grants" don't have an annual set-aside for artists. Of this year’s 22 Fellowship winners, seven of the five-year grants were awarded in the arts, including music, architecture, silversmithing and poetry. Just one, jazz composer-percussionist works in a field funded by the Foundation, which concentrates its arts giving on jazz, theater and contemporary dance because they were passions of the founder. In the 15 years since 1997grants have totaled more than $218 million.

The foundation’s president, said the new initiative responds to worsening funding prospects in the arts. “At a time when support … is being cut back across the country, and when most artists … are struggling to stay viable project by project, we thought it was essential to step up our commitment.”

Organizations and individual artists who have a track record of working together can team up to apply for the residencies starting late next year. But the “leading artist” grants and emerging-artist fellowships are on a don’t-call-us-we’ll-call-you basis, with the winners decided by anonymous groups of experts. The first calls will come in March or April to 20 “leading artists,” who’ll receive their money over the course of three to five years (the timing is their choice). The emerging-artist fellowships will begin in 2014.

While the Fellowships come with no strings attached, the Foundation specifies that while winners can use $225,000 however they want, an additional $25,000 will be reserved for the artists’ efforts in arts education or helping to build a bigger arts audience. The last $25,000 is reserved for their retirement -– but they’ll only get as much of it as they’re willing to match with their own money (which can include part of the $225,000). Similarly, the emerging-artist fellowships, paid out over two or three years, provide for $60,000 that recipients can use however they choose, with an additional $10,000 for audience development and $10,000 for retirement, on a matching basis. Along with the grants comes free financial advice from the Foundation about how to use the windfall.

To narrow the field for “leading artist” grants, the Foundation will only consider artists who have had at least three projects funded by national arts grantmakers over the past 10 years, including at least one project that indirectly received money from the Foundation. Until now, the grant funding program had confined its arts giving to organizations that then mainly used their own discretion to hire or provide grants to artists while carrying out a program-funded project.

The boost for jazz, dance and theater isn’t coming at the expense of environmental conservation, medical research and child-abuse prevention, the other areas in which the Foundation makes grants.

Grant Program For The Theatre

There is now a grant program to support the development of theatre leaders at various points in their by career. The overall intent of this program is to strengthen the field by developing the individuals who are the core and the future of theatre.

For many early theatre professionals and recent graduates of advanced training programs, the combination of limited job openings in theatres, low compensation and student loan debt make a career in the not-for-profit theatre a questionable future. This grant program is not only designed to provide financial support for early-career leaders, but will also prepare recipients with greater leadership skills to enable a stable and a long-term career in the theatre.

Learning opportunities are also extended to mid-career professionals who could benefit from a short-term immersion outside of their organization and in their area of expertise. Observing the work of critical thinkers inside and outside the theatre field can help veteran leaders gain new perspectives on the opportunities and challenges within their own organizations as well as the field. This financial grant program provides practitioners with the rare time for reflection and inspiration to continue onward.

This grant program will award by grants in two initiatives: One-on-One for early-career leaders and Continuing Ed for mid-career and veteran professionals.

One-on-One grants of $75,000 will be awarded to six exceptionally talented early-career leaders from all areas of the theatre for professional development via mentorships at a Theatre, with an additional $5,000 honorarium for their mentor. Up to an additional $14,500 in supplemental funds may be used for student loan repayment, professional development or life needs (i.e. health care, child or elder or other medical expenses).

Continuing Ed grants of up to $6,000 will be awarded to eight mid-career to veteran professionals for learning opportunities to advance their leadership skills in areas that include artistic, administrative, educational and production. Grants will be awarded to the applicant's home theatre on behalf of the theatre practitioner.

Online registration applications and guidelines will be made available. For more information about the program, visit the website.

The grant program is a private philanthropic institution that makes grants on a selective basis in five core program areas: higher education and scholarship; scholarly communications and information technology; museums and art conservation; conservation and the environment; and performing arts. The Foundation's Performing Arts program focuses on achieving long-term results by providing multi-year grants to leading organizations in the disciplines of music, theater, and dance. Annual giving in the area of the performing arts has averaged approximately $30 million per year since 2005.

For 50 years, The group has existed to strengthen, nurture and promote the professional not-for-profit American theatre. For more information visit the official website.

Here Is Yet ANOTHER Grant Program For The Individual Artist

One artist who received the $25,000 grant said, "I've been working multiple jobs to get by, so it means a chance to take more time for my personal writing. It will be huge for my development over the next year."

The grant organization has already announced $450,000 in grants to 18 literary and performing artists.

The $25,000 no-strings grant awards were designed to give artists the financial breathing room to focus on their art.

The grant recipients are also afforded professional development services to help with their career-building.

2010 Grant Recipients include:

  • novelists

  • poets

  • an art critic

  • a flamenco choreographer

  • songwriters working in hip-hop and garage-punk

  • a R&B, hip-hop and spoken-word performer
The organization hopes these grant awards act as a catalyst for culture by inspiring artists to do their best work. Says another grant recipient, "the grant offers some real financial independence, and at least for the next year I'll be set." Another of the grant recipients plans on investing much of his grant money into securing a permanent artistic home. He's also planning on buying his first professional-quality bass. The organization also also bestows an annual artist grant of $50,000. This year's round of grant recipients were selected from 350 applicants by panels of national and local experts. The awards were limited to artists who create their own work as opposed to interpretive artists like dancers, actors and musicians who are not composers. However, the latter group, as well as filmmakers, may be deemed eligible for future grants as the program develops. For more information about this grant program just click here.

Here Is Yet ANOTHER State Grant Program For Individual Artists!

Here is yet ANOTHER grant program available for the individual artist!

Past grant recipients include a musician, an interior artist and a painter. One recipient said that he will use his grant money to travel to places he's been and those he's wished to go, painting as he goes. Another grant recipient is going to use their grant money to build a studio on his property.

A lot of the grant recipients are also teachers as well!

Grants Program For Individual Artists Is Getting It's Funding Back!

You may find it hard to believe but there are still some grant programs around for individual artists! Some of them are for local artists in local areas but there are other grant programs for artists that are on a more national level!

After receiving protests from hundreds of people, a senate appropriations chairman has announced that a grant program for individual artists will be getting its grant fundingback.

Even though there will be a cut in the amount received the grant program will still continue to operate.

Initially the money would have been transferred to another department who would have them given grants to local communities and the rest of the money would be used for other government services.

However after being "bombarded by e-mails from people complaining about the proposed demise of the program a different decision was made!

More information about this grant program:

This grant program administers grants for local communities and individual artists, devoting much of its focus on smaller communities that provide little in local funds. These smaller grants often form the match required for the programs to receive much larger federal grants.

In some ways this is a very good example of people being able to voice their opinions and have them heard and actually get results!

State Grant Program For Individual Artists

Here is another grant program for individual artists

A new $3 Million Dollar annual grant program has been announced for artists in one particular state! This grant program will hope to answer the question "Who will create opportunities for artists who have been poor in money and opportunity?"

  • Three $25,000 individual grants will be awarded for experienced artists in the state.

  • Three $20,000 grants to state institutions with artist-in-residence programs. Half of the grants will be given to resident artists to offset work and living expenses during residencies.

  • Grants to institutions for the historical documentation of major exhibitions on artists of the state.

  • Grants to art institutions for the improvement of exhibition space

  • Grants to underwrite visits to the state by nationally recognized curators and critics who can expose local artists to the national art world

  • Grants to institutions for the acquisition of artworks

  • Grants for a special program that would provide assistance to artists for unforeseen special projects, such as expenses to finish artwork for a major exhibition sponsored by a national art museum.

The organization that is funding this grant program will begin accepting applications for the different fellowships and grants at different times later this year.

While no other organization in the state offers a more financially lucrative grant program for artists there is another organization that offers one $20,000 individual fellowship to similarly experienced artists. But this fellowship program is awarded annually to artists of different disciplines, including the performing arts, visual arts, media arts and literature.

The impact of this funding program will be felt by the art community at large. Documenting major exhibitions is crucial, for instance, both for the sake of stewardship and historical documentation. One of the most impressive shows in recent memory arrived to critical fanfare but with no catalog to document the show for future generations. The financially strapped Art Museum didn't have the money to produce one.

After five years, the foundation will evaluate the impact of the programs on the community and the foundation's overall financial situation. Then, a decision will be made whether to continue.

Rarely do foundations give directly to individuals because they are required to disperse money to public charities. So it asked the Internal Revenue Service for special dispensation, promising that all individual grants would be used for charitable purposes.

Individual Artists Receive $10,000 UNRESTRICTED Grants!

Here is another state grant program for the individual artists! What is also great about this particular grant program is the fact that the grants are unrestricted - which means that the artist can use their grant money for anything!

50 local artists have received individual grant awards of $10,000 for creating work of exceptional quality in a range of disciplines. According to a spokesperson, "Individual artists are really the foundation of everything else that happens in the arts in our state. We feel strongly that as a state agency we continue to foster the work of our exceptional range of individual artists across the state. This is an important investment in the state’s creative sector. Artists are the backbone of our state's creative economy These programs give talented individuals the freedom to develop work that will be shown, sold and performed all over the world.

This financial funding program recognizes the unique contribution made by artists to the cultural vitality of the commonwealth and provide direct assistance to artists of the state to recognize excellence and creative ability and support further development of their talents.

The program awarded $10,000 unrestricted grants to 33 artists and distinguished 17 others as finalists with $1,000 grants. They were selected from more than 1,200 applicants in the areas of film and video, music composition, photography, sculpture and installation, playwriting and crafts.

Some of the winners of $10,000 grants include:

  • a filmmaker

  • a playwright

  • a sculpturer

  • a crafter

The artists’ submissions were reviewed according to artistic quality and creative ability. The program is highly competitive with only about four percent of the applicants receiving recognition.

Submissions must have been completed within the past four years.

Next year, the program will accept applications in painting, drawing choreography, drawing, painting, fiction and creative nonfiction, poetry and traditional arts. Awards are based on recommendations by independent panels of experts who practice in the disciplines they review.

A total of $347,000 was awarded to individual artists! Funding for the grants comes from the cultural council’s general budget appropriated by the state legislature.

The full list of awarded artists is posted on line at the program's website.

$100.000

Grant Program

For Filmmakers!

One state's film commission has announced that up to $200,000 may be made available to filmmakers who partner with the media arts department at one of the state's universities or the film, radio and television department of one of their technical colleges. Each partnership will be eligible to receive up to $100,000 to create a short film through the a state production fund.

The goal of the production fund is to instill collaboration between filmmakers and the state's institutes of higher education that have film production programs resulting in the professional development of our students and professionals alike. The fund was created as part of the state's incentive to further develop the motion picture industry within the state itself.

The final projects should be capable of competing in film festivals around the country.

All filmmakers are encouraged to enter this competition. According to one spokesperson for the program, "We encourage all filmmakers to enter this competition. This is a real opportunity to demonstrate the skills and talents resident within our state.

A public meeting to discuss the program and the application process will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 12th, 2009 at one of the state's universities. The application process has been streamlined this year and will incorporate the skills of feature film industry professionals throughout the process to ensure participants better understand the working environment of a feature film. This will better organize the production, further develop individual skills, and continue to develop a job-ready work force that is ready to capture the high-paying jobs that this industry creates.

Sept. 18th is the deadline for the first round of applications, which includes a script and a project overview.
